Outpost

At Camp Naish, the Outpost program was originally used to attract older Scouts back to camp that had already earned most of the merit badges, but still wanted a Scout summer camp experience. The earliest known Outpost insignia includes rocker-type patches used to encircle the standard camp patch as shown in the two examples below.

Later, the Kaw Outpost program was developed. Based on communication with participants in the program, it involved hiking to a location off Camp Naish property and spending the week there and then hiking back. The week-long experience culminated in the Scouts cooking a meal for their parents. More recent outpost activities include learning old west/frontiersman/mountain man skills and involve one overnight stay or an evening visit to the outpost site.
